my great grandmother came from japan with no skills. she became a farmer. i used to pick bagfuls of tangerines from her tree and gobble them up. people would say that if i didn't watch it, i would turn orange.

every year grandma would say to us, watch me, because someday you'll have to carry on the traditions.
now 8 years later, we still continue to do our annual mochitsuki as a remembrance of a great woman who lived and loved.
my grandpa pounding. i never pounded. its hard to believe that he is pounding in what looks like his work clothes. that mallet looks like it would pound off your fingers if you are not careful.
